Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), also shared the sad news of Ethel’s passing in a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday night. Describing her as a screen beauty renowned for her unforgettable portrayal of Segi in Ken Saro-Wiwa’s acclaimed sitcom “Basi and Company,” Dr. Husseini lamented her untimely departure.

“The actress and later-day Pastor and star of Amaka Igwe’s ‘Forever’ and most recently ‘Sons of the Caliphate’ reportedly died of Cancer today in Lagos,” read the post, reflecting on Ethel’s illustrious career and her significant contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Ethel’s impressive filmography includes notable roles in Aguila Njamah’s “Heartbeat,” Tchidi Chikere’s “Speak the Word,” and Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen’s “Traumatised.” However, it was her portrayal of Segi in “Basi and Company,” a beloved sitcom that aired on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) from 1986 to 1990, that truly endeared her to audiences across the nation.
