Ekiti state, Nigeria – In a landmark judgment by an Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, 56-year-old Jaiyeoba Oluwafemi has been handed a life sentence for the horrific rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter.
The court proceedings unveiled a disturbing pattern of abuse that began on October 26, 2020, and continued whenever the victim’s mother was away. The brave primary six pupil recounted how Oluwafemi forcibly had sex with her, causing severe injury, and persistently threatened her after she confided in her mother, who initially took no action.
It was only after seeking advice from a woman that the victim reported the matter to the Governor’s Office, leading to Oluwafemi’s arrest. Prosecutor Julius Ajibare presented a strong case with six witnesses and crucial evidence, including the defendant’s statement and a medical report.
Justice Adekunle Adeleye meticulously analyzed the evidence, concluding that the “sexual intercourse sessions were on several occasions,” and found Oluwafemi guilty as charged, sentencing him to life imprisonment in accordance with the Child’s Rights Law of Ekiti State.
