The University of Ilorin has been selected as a key location for a new digital innovation hub as part of Nigeria’s ambitious Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) initiative. The programme is designed to equip youths with future-ready skills and promote entrepreneurship across the country.
Educa.ng reports that, the confirmation came through a letter from the National Universities Commission (NUC), dated June 17, 2025, and addressed to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN). NUC’s Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, emphasized that UNILORIN was selected based on its proven readiness and capacity to drive innovation and enterprise.
The iDICE programme, funded by the Federal Government in collaboration with the Bank of Industry, African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and Agence Française de Développement, will see digital hubs established across select institutions.
Ribadu stated that this initiative is crucial to developing Nigeria’s digital economy and strengthening collaboration between universities and the private sector. He highlighted the University of Ilorin’s role in training a new generation of job creators and innovators.
Vice Chancellor Egbewole, speaking through Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, welcomed the recognition and said the university would launch an appeal fund for the innovation hub during its Golden Jubilee celebration.
Egbewole pledged the institution’s full cooperation to ensure smooth implementation, promising that the hub would serve both current students and future generations, while contributing meaningfully to national development goals.
