Academic Crackdown at Kogi State Polytechnic: Over 270 Students Sanctioned in Major Disciplinary Sweep

In a strong push to uphold academic integrity, Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja has withdrawn 273 students and expelled six others as part of a disciplinary crackdown following the 2024/2025 First Semester examinations.

According to a report gathered by Educa.ng, the Academic Board made these decisions during its 120th session held on April 17, 2025, at the institution’s main campus. Rector Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman praised the Result Verification Committee, led by Deputy Rector Dr. Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for its thorough assessment of student performances.

The withdrawal list spans 20 departments and 42 academic programmes, including Civil Engineering, Accountancy, Mass Communication, Animal Health, Library Science, and more. According to Polytechnic spokesperson Uredo Omale, the measures are aimed at reinforcing academic standards.

Meanwhile, six students were expelled for violating examination conduct rules. Two students, Daniel Onuche Gabriel and Yaro Abdullahi Nma, were expelled for impersonation. Four Mass Communication students were caught with unauthorized materials during exams, contravening Section 4.35 (9) of the 2021 Revised Student Handbook.

Dr. Grace Ehimony, Chairperson of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, presented the findings which led to the expulsions.

The rector reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s dedication to a disciplined learning environment and emphasized that these sanctions were necessary to maintain institutional credibility. Affected students are required to return all school property before departure.
