In a powerful keynote address at Trinity University’s maiden Registry Lecture Series in Lagos, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi, immediate past Registrar of the University of Ibadan, called on Nigerian universities to embrace digital transformation as a cornerstone of modern governance.

Speaking on the theme “Responding to the Dynamics of Change in University Governance: The Strategic Role of the Registry,” Faluyi emphasized the need for innovation, strategic thinking, and digital adoption within administrative departments. According to her, outdated bureaucratic models can no longer serve universities in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world.

“Governance structures must evolve to support institutional resilience, academic freedom, and stakeholder engagement,” she stated, urging universities to digitize financial operations, record management, and communication systems.

According to Educa.ng, she described the Registry as a critical engine room in university governance, stressing that registrars must be equipped with strong administrative, ethical, and leadership skills. “We must empower our registries to manage change effectively,” she said, “and use technology as a driver of transparency and efficiency.”

The event featured Trinity University’s leadership and administrators from across the country, including representatives from University of Lagos, Bowen University, Lagos State University of Education, and more.

Faluyi’s presentation underscored that modern university governance requires embracing global trends, diversifying revenue sources, fostering stakeholder participation, and eliminating tribalism in appointments.

The lecture concluded with a call to action: institutions must not only adopt digital tools but also transform mindsets to navigate the new era of higher education successfully.
