To address the deteriorating state of public primary schools in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule has sanctioned the purchase of 15,716 desks for immediate distribution to schools across the state.
This development was disclosed by Dr. Kassim Muhammed-Kassim, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), during a press interaction in Lafia. According to him, the decision was prompted by distressing discoveries during school inspection tours carried out by education authorities.
“I reported the deplorable state of our classrooms to the governor, and he responded swiftly by approving the contract for the desks,” Dr. Muhammed-Kassim revealed. “He has further mandated that the delivery be completed within a month.”
Educa.ng reported that, the chairman, who has actively toured various public schools, said he encountered severe infrastructure decay—students sitting on bare floors, broken or completely absent furniture, and overcrowded learning spaces.
“Many pupils are learning under heartbreaking conditions. They either stand or sit on remnants of broken chairs, unable to focus properly,” he said.
He described the situation as a clear threat to the future of the children, emphasizing that inadequate learning environments hinder academic performance and reduce student morale.
Dr. Muhammed-Kassim praised Governor Sule’s unwavering support, assuring the public that efforts are underway to revamp the primary education system in the state. “With political will and strategic action, we will reshape Nasarawa’s educational landscape.”
